Tory Lanez has been on the gas lately. Coming off a huge win recently as an independent artist, when he went platinum in less than 1 minute. The Toronto rapper sold 1 million units of an EP full of unreleased music on a new platform designed to change the way artist are payed in the music industry.

E-NFT confirms, originally started by Emmersive Entertainment, they are looking to pay their artists for every song or piece of content they create. Canadian born Rapper, singer and producer Tory Lanez teamed up with the company to launch their marketplace and his first NFT. Tory sold 1 million units at $1, in less than 1 minute.  He generated over $400,000 of initial gross sales and resales through NFTs. The token were collected by more than 300 fans, each of whom purchased artwork paired with one of three tracks.

Collectors of all 3 Tory Lanez NFTs, “Lady of Neptune,” “Distance,” and “Y.D.L.R”, gained access to special perks directly from the rapper. These perks include an exclusive virtual meet and greet, an unreleased track and signed merchandise from the artist.

NFTs are slowly integrating into everyday life. Their potential to “cut out the middle man” is extremely positive for a music industry that is struggling to stay monetized.

Technology is changing how people create music and consume music. Nowadays, songwriters can record and release albums without ever landing a record deal.  NFTs are only facilitating that. Esteemed artists, like A Tribe Called Quest and Jay-Z have already seen the perks of digitizing song rights.

Ice Cube Talks “Boyz N The Hood”, Mt. Westmore + More On Kevin Hart’s ‘Hart To Heart’

Ice Cube was the featured guest on episode 10 of Kevin Hart’s new Peacock talk show Hart to Heart.

During the conversation between the two entertainers, Cube spoke on getting into movies with Boyz N The Hood and working with late director John Singleton as his solo music career is beginning to take off

“[I’m] at the height of my solo career,” the former member of N.W.A. member said. “Just dropped AmeriKKKa’s Most Wanted, I think either just dropped Kill At Will, or about to drop my second EP. It was rolling. I was working on Death Certificate.“

When the discussion turned to music, Ice Cube touched on the Mt. Westmore supergroup of Too Short, Snoop Dogg, E-40, and himself. When Kevin Hart asked the rapper/actor about the formation of the group, Cube said, “E-40 approached me. He said, ‘you know what, Cube? We should do a big ass group together.’ I said what you mean by gig, who else? He said, ‘Snoop, and Short.’ I said yeah that’s big.”

Ice Cube went on to tell Kevin Hart that group had “like 50 tracks, so we got 3 albums worth of shit”.

Tha Chill of CMW & Former Ruthless Records Producer Rhythm D In The Studio

West Coast producers Tha Chill of Compton’s Most Wanted and former Ruthless Records producer Rhythm D,  were recently collaborating in the studio together.  Rhythm D took to Instagram earlier today to show the jam session between the two multi-platinum producers.

Rhythm D joined Eazy-E‘s Ruthless Records in 1992 as the label’s in-house producer after a short stint with Death Row Records.  The South Central Los Angeles producer contributed 3 tracks to the 1993 Eazy-E album It’s On (Dr. Dre) 187um Killa, and most notably produced the “Real Compton City G’s,” response record to Dr. Dre‘s “Fuck Wit Dre Day” diss song to Eazy.  Rhythm D has produced for many industry heavyweights including Eazy-E, MC Ren (1993’s Shock Of the Hour), Bone Thugs-N-Harmony (1994’s Creepin’ On Ah Come Up & 1995’s E. 1999 Eternal), and Mack 10 (1998’s The Recipe) to name a few.

Tha Chill, as an artist and producer, has worked with many of rap’s biggest stars like MC Ren, MC Eiht, with whom he co-founded Compton’s Most Wanted, Snoop Dogg, Redman, Battlecat, Nate Dogg, King T, Kurupt, Warren G, and others.  Some of these masterpieces include “Shot Caller” for MC Ren’s last Ruthless Records album, Ruthless For Life in 1998,  “Run On Up” and “Ups & Downs” for Snoop Dogg, Warren G, and Nate Dogg on the highly-anticipated 213 project in 2004, and “Get’em” on Redman’s Red Gone Wild: Thee Album in 2007 to name a few.

Iconic L.A. Radio Personality ‘Big Boy’ To Get Star On Hollywood Walk Of Fame

Veteran Los Angeles radio personality Kurt “Big Boy” Alexander will be joining other legendary and famous radio personalities on Hollywood Boulevard, when he will be honored by the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce with the 2,701st five-pointed terrazzo and brass star on Wednesday, Sept. 8 at 11:30am PT, on the famed boulevard in front of Amoeba Music.

Producer of the Hollywood Walk of Fame, Ana Martinez, said in a news release, “Big Boy is L.A.’s pride and joy and a hero to his listeners. We are thrilled to honor him on his special birthday and welcome him to our Walk of Fame family,”.

One of the people helping to unveil the star will be none other than producer/mogul Dr. Dre.

Flavor Flav Says Dr. Dre’s New Album is “Getting Ready to Come Out”

In a recent interview with Steve-O on his Wild Ride podcast, legendary Public Enemy hype man Flavor Flav shared that he was at Dr. Dre’s home not long ago. And, while there, he says that he recorded material for an upcoming album from the D-R-E.

While it remains to be seen if any new music will materialize, Flav is not the only one who has shared stories as of late about visiting Dre and hearing new music. On separate occasions, Grandmaster Flash and Diamond D have taken to social media too to discuss time spent with Dre.

Focus… Drops “SWFIJN (’21)” Ahead Of Upcoming ‘Focus… Presents The NW Variant’ Album Release

Focus…, a 5x Grammy Award winning record producer, first rose to fame when signed to Dr. Dre‘s Aftermath Entertainment in 2001. Over the course of his career he has produced Platinum and Gold selling records for artists including Dr. Dre, Beyonce’, Eminem, Kendrick Lamar, The Game, and many more.

Last week Focus… dropped news that he is planning to drop a new album called Focus… Presents The NW Variant. Details for the upcoming album haven’t been divulged as of yet, but “SWFIJN (’21)” is a nice sneak-peek into what we’re in store for.

When Chad Kiser asked about what “SWFIJN (’21)” represents to him, Focus… had this to say, “‘SWFIJN’ is my truth. I wanted to purge in a healthy way and let my people know why my productivity has been slower than usual. Life got really real and I had/ have to stand in that reality.”

Kurupt Talks Dr. Dre’s “Detox”, Snoop Dogg & 2Pac Tension, Squashing Beef With DMX, Working On “Doggystyle”, The D.O.C. + More On Bootleg Kev Podcast

Kurupt has been a part of hip-hop history since he first stormed onto the scene with his appearance songs like “Lyrical Gangbang”, “Stranded on Death Row”, and “Bitches Ain’t Shit” from Dr. Dre’s multi-platinum solo debut The Chronic on Death Row Records in 1992. Since those incredible verse-stealing guest appearances, Kurupt has gone on to have a near 30 year career in the music industry, making more history along the way.

He was an integral part to several of hip-hop’s most classic albums including Snoop Dogg’s Doggystyle, Tha Dogg Pound’s Dogg Food with Daz Dillinger, and 2Pac’s All Eyez On Me, in addition to the aforementioned The Chronic with Dr. Dre, during his run on Death Row Records through the 1990’s.

During a recent sit down with The Bootleg Kev Podcast, the legendary MC gives an inside look on his days with Death Row Records, his relationship with the infamous Suge Knight, working with Snoop Dogg on Doggystyle, squashing his beef with the late DMX and other New York emcees, the tension between 2Pac and Snoop, and so much more.

Too Short Performs For The Universal Hip-Hop Museum in NYC

On Friday (Aug. 20), the Universal Hip-Hop Museum held their “It’s Time For Hip-Hop In NYC” concert in Queens at the Forest Hills Stadium. The show was headlined by George Clinton and the P-Funk All-Stars whose music helped establish hip-hop in general. Special guests included Too Short, Yo-Yo, Havoc of Mobb Deep and EPMD. The Art of Rap Festival Twitter account posted a video clip of Short Dogg performing. Check it out!

Mo3 and Morray connect on “In My Blood” new visual

November 11, 2020 was a sad day for Hip Hop and Dallas natives. When new broke that emerging rapper Mo3 was gunned down on a Dallas freeway. Sense the incident, the alleged gunman have been captured by authorities. But that has not stopped the Bad Azz Music Syndicate member, and Dallas native from continuing his rise in Hip Hop with Soulful, heartfelt, reality based songs that were taking off before his untimely passing.

“In My Blood” is just another example of his ability to deliver soulful fire! What makes the track even more special is the guest feature from Morray. Who recently burst on the scene after his hit “Quicksand” and immediately began getting comparisons to Mo3. I think this track will silence those comparisons and show just how different both artist are, and what they both lend to the art form, even in Mo3’s passing.  It’s a soulful banger! check it out!
