Red Rum of Bangin’ On Wax Passes Away

We just got the sad news that Jermaine “Red Rum” Carter of Bangin’ On Wax fame has passed away. The Inglewood rapper was a pioneer of Blood rappers that later became prevalent in the rap industry years later. Red Rum was also the cousin of hip-hop legend Kurupt and was briefly signed to the infamous Death Row Records in the early 90’s. Red Rum continued to record and appear on Damu Rydaz projects and was featured on songs with the likes of Kokane, Kam, B. Dot and many other West Coast acts. As the popularity of the Bloods rose throughout the country due in part to Blood rappers in the industry, Red Rum made it a point to visit states outside of California and go to the Blood hoods to make sure they have their protocols right. He also made it a point to teach an anti-violence message amongst gangs and Black men. Recently, Red Rum had silently battled cancer and unfortunately succumbed to it. I had the honor of interviewing him for Raptalk back in 2007 and I remember him to be a cool person. From time to time we would interact on Facebook and Instagram. Our condolences goes out to his family, friends and associates.

RIP Jermaine “Red Rum” Carter
