DJ Pooh Says That Tha Dogg Pound’s “New York, New York” Wasn’t a Diss Record

One song that always comes up when discussing Hip-Hop’s bi-coastal rivalry in the mid-’90s is Tha Dogg Pound’s “New York, New York.” However, in a recent tweet, the track’s producer, DJ Pooh, revealed that this record wasn’t a diss when Kurupt stepped in the booth. However, the masses interpreted it differently. Recent Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee Jay-Z even commented on its controversial video in his classic, “Money, Cash, Hoes,” a few years later.  “It’s like New York been soft ever since Snoop came through and crushed the buildings / I’m trying to restore the feelings;  fuck the law, keeping dealing / More money, more cash, more chilling.
