Damon Dash Responds Positively to Jay-Z’s Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Acceptance Speech

In addition to LL Cool J’s induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame on October 30, another Hip-Hop legend who also joined that elite group of iconic music makers is Shawn “Jay-Z” Carter. After being inducted by Dave Chappelle, Jay took the stage and proceeded to give a heartfelt speech. He acknowledged how far Hip-Hop has come with his own story culminating with his work with Obama, and saluted his heroes from the culture that paved the way for him like Rakim, Big Daddy Kane, KRS-One, Chuck D, and LL Cool J.

Then, in a very classy move, he shouted out Damon Dash, someone Jay has not always been on the same page. However, when they were, the two of the and Kareem “Biggs” Burke created Roc-A-Fella Records, one of the most successful and influential labels in the music industry’s history.

“Shout out to Dame,” Jay said. “I know we don’t see eye to eye, but I can never erase your accomplishments. And I appreciate you, and I thank you for that.” After giving props to Biggs, he added, “I appreciate you guys. Thank you for your contribution to this journey.”

In response to Jay-Z’s words, Dash told Page Six, “It was beautiful. I’m glad he said it for the culture. We need to squash everything. So hopefully, if that was an extended [olive branch], I’ll spin one back.”

“We can talk it out, and the culture needs to see two strong black men working out a problem,” he added. “Even if they worked together, they can go their separate ways, [and] they can still be cool.”
