2Pac’s “Toss It Up” Turns 25

Released a quarter of a century ago today (09/26/1996), the first single from the Tupac album, The Don Killuminati: The 7 Day Theory, recording under the alias Makaveli, was unleashed. Dr. Dre originally produced the song. However, when he left Death Row Records, he took that track with him and developed what would eventually become “No Diggity” for Blackstreet. As a result of a cease and desist order by the court, Death Row replaced Dre’s production, and the new beat is on the final product.

“Toss It Up” peaked at number 34 on the R&B singles chart and came out just shy of two weeks after Shakur’s passing.  The music video for the record is the last one that Pac ever did.
