WCS Exclusive: Sir Mix-a-Lot Talks Ownership, Production, & That Famous “Booty” Song of His

“Oh my God, Becky, look at her butt.” Very few pieces of music are identifiable before the music even drops. “Baby Got Back” is an exception, though. And that is a true testament to its influence, impact, and popularity. And it came out in 1992. It’s 2021. The song transcended Hip-Hop. It even got bigger than music in a sense and became a staple in American culture. However, if one were to think it was just an “ass” song, they would be wrong. Records that superficial don’t last. Also, if they were to believe the artist that made that song is a “one-hit wonder” chewed up and spit out by the music business, they would be wrong again. In a fantastic interview with West Coast Styles, Sir Mix-a-Lot talks about, among other things, what record companies don’t want you to know, Rick Rubin, his connection to one of The Pussycat Dolls’ biggest hits, and the late great DMX.

Sir Mix-a-Lot is an outstanding example of an artist who ages gracefully in a predominantly “young man’s” Hip-Hop game. So, this interview proves why he’s worthy of the title in his name for those who don’t already know. Check it out!
