Studio Sessions: Dr. Dre & Diddy Hit The Studio

Dr. Dre is having a very active 2022 with his performance during the Pepsi Halftime Show during Super Bowl LVI with Mary J. Blige, Eminem, Snoop Dogg, Kendrick Lamar & 50 Cent, completing an album with Marsha Ambrosius, and, more recently, Harry-O, founder of Death Row Records, revealed that Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg are back in the studio making another album together.

Over the last several months, images of Dr. Dre, Eminem, Snoop Dogg, DJ Yella, and producer Mark Batson have surfaced, and now new images from Diddy’s Instagram have come out showing Dr. Dre and Diddy in the studio just this week working on something.

“Yesterday, one of my biggest dreams finally came true. I remember the first time I heard @DrDre’s production. It gave me clear direction on the level of Producer that I wanted to be. Last night, I got the chance to work with this man and to see his genius as he coached me through vocals. He reminded me of myself, but with a different style and way more focused. I gotta step my focus up! lol But it was a great experience and I thank God for it. I hope one day ya’ll get to have the same experience with someone that you always looked up to as a hero.”

There is definitely something brewing with Dr. Dre, so stay tuned!

Problem retires his name. Going by Jason Martin now.

It’s been a hell of a run for Compton legend Problem. He first came to my attention in 2004 when his uncle gave me his demo and persistently stayed on me until I gave it a listen -and I am glad I did. Shortly after I began premiering him on the web pages of WestCoastRydaz and we began a grassroots campaign from the ground up. Right away I could see that this young man was putting in the hard work to match his musical skill, driving hours from Compton to Palmdale to record and then to the San  Fernando Valley where I lived to drop off music to premiere.

Every year he excelled and made connections, moving up the ladder, getting songs on Los Angeles radio. Then he started writing for Snoop Dogg along with his road dogg Bad Lucc. Fun times were shared in the studio with myself, Problem, Terrace Martin, DJ Quik and others. The co-signs from legends were coming in and Problem soon found himself with more industry heavyweights thanks to his role on “Function” with E-40. The “Welcome to Mollywood” set a trend not only in L.A hip-hop but nationally as well. I could go on and on about other exploits but I would be here for awhile.

After performing at his 10 Year Anniversary Show for “Welcome to Mollywood” this past weekend, the decision was made to retire the Problem name and to go on with his government name Jason Martin. This re-branding goes beyond just music as it’s tied to new business ventures including a new Coffee and Kush lounge. Martin has also assured that new music is on the way, so I am eager to see where this takes him creatively.

So now we say goodbye to Problem and hello to Jason Martin.

I am officially only going by my government name. May this chapter be at least as fun as the last. New music, new businesses, new money.

MC Ren Drops Jittney Spears-Animated “Osiris” Official Music Video

Earlier this summer, Iconic Rock N Roll Hall of Fame emcee and legendary hip-hop pioneer MC Ren of N.W.A dropped the Osiris EP.

Over the weekend, the Villain in Black released the Jittney Spears animated music video for the title track.

Produced by Tha Chill of Compton’s Most Wanted, the 8-track EP features Kurupt of the Dogg Pound, Jayo Felony, Ras Kass, Kokane, Cold 187um of Above The Law, J-Dee of Da Lench Mob, as well as Tha Chill.

MC Ren exclusively revealed the tracklist with Chad Kiser to the 8-track EP prior to its release and said that he, “Feels honored to have everybody who was involved on the project. All of them came through and handled business and I want to thank all of them. Chill went on another level with production and I can’t wait for the world to hear it.”

Tha Chill also added about producing the project saying, “Working on Osiris, I went back and revised all of Ren’s slaps from N.W.A to Ruthless For Life and tried to figure out how to keep that energy, but make it new. I call it Infusion Music, infuse the old with the new. That’s why you hear breaks, scratches and interludes with 808s and hats going crazy.”

Mila J Drops “Welcome To The West” Featuring DJ Battlecat (Prod. Mad Lion)

Mila J just dropped a new music video for the Mad Lion-produced “Welcome To The West” featuring west coast legend and multi-platinum producer DJ Battlecat.

The Los Angeles native released the singles “Complete” and “Good Lookin’ Out,” in 2006, which built up anticipation for her debut album, Split Personality, scheduled for release on Universal Motown but ultimately shelved. In 2014 Mila J released “Smoke, Drink, Break-Up” followed by “My Main,” before the release of her M.I.L.A. EP in October of that year.

In 2015, she collaborated with Jodeci and BC Kingdom and dropped the mixtapes The Waiting Game and Covergirl, as well as the single “FreakNic.”

Along with her 213 EP, the following year saw Mila J work with Timbaland on the song “Don’t Get No Betta,” and in 2017 she dropped the single “La La Land” and the MILAULONGTIME mixtape.

DJ Khaled just dropped his 13th studio album, GOD DID, an 18-track album featuring Eminem, Dr. Dre, JAY-Z, Rick Ross, 21 Savage, Kanye West, SZA, John Legend, the late Juice WRLD, and more.

Included on the follow-up to last year’s Khaled Khaled is the Kanye West and Eminem track titled “Use This Gospel (Remix),” produced by Dr. Dre and The ICU.

In 2021, Kanye West shared that he had collaborated with Eminem and Dr. Dre for a remix of “Use This Gospel” saying via Twitter, “Eminem Thank you for rapping on the Dr. Dre remix of use this gospel I have always loved and respected you and im honored to have you bless this song … Its also North West’s favorite Kanye West song of all time.”

“Use This Gospel”, a spiritual track, appeared on Ye’s 2019 album “Jesus Is King“ and featured The Clipse duo of Pusha T and No Malice. Kenny G also assisted with a solo Saxophone cameo.

Kanye West gave the track to DJ Khaled to release on GOD DID.

DJ Khaled shared the official tracklist for his forthcoming 13th studio album, GOD DID, an 18-track album featuring Eminem, Dr. Dre, JAY-Z, Rick Ross, 21 Savage, Kanye West, SZA, John Legend, the late Juice WRLD, and more.

One of the biggest surprises of the tracklist reveal is the “Use This Gospel (Remix),” featuring a collaboration between Kanye West & Eminem, produced by Dr. Dre and The ICU.

The original “Use This Gospel” is a track from Kanye’s 2019 Jesus is King album.

DJ Khaled took to social media to also thank everyone who contributed to the project: “I want to thank EVERYONE who believed. On this album and beyond. THANK YOU! This album is special,” while also hinting at another surprise coming ahead of the album release. “Let me be clear, there’s a lot of things that can happen in the next 24 hours.”

“I go by the name of Budda Mack I’m from the Bay Area, Oakland, California. I was a hype man for my brother –  he did gospel and ultimately he inspired me to be a rapper. The hype man work I did helped me get used to the crowd and really pushed me in this direction. When I turned 8 I started rapping and that’s all she wrote,” Budda Mack explained.

Themed after all the classy ladies that Budda Mack is used to seeing in the Bat Area and around the world, Budda got prominent Bay Area rapper Foreign Glizzy to join him on the song.

“The new video is for the song Hollow and it’s pretty much about wanting a bad and bougie girl but basically, just a girl that has that class and the other aspects of being classy, it don’t matter if she ratchet, she’s just that girl,” Budda Mack said. “The song has a feature from this artist named Foreign Glizzy and he’s a well-known rapper around here. Really I just want this record to break. I feel like Hip-Hop is missing something right now and I think what it’s missing is me.”

Looking foward, Budda Mack plans to continue to release singles as he follows through towards a full-length release for fans. “Hollow” is already earning spins with DJs on the West Coast and with a steady buzz online, it’s clear Budda Mack is in a good place with his music.

“I’m hoping that this record will take us to the next level and not that I don’t have other records that could do that, but I think this one is getting a great response online”

Anaya LoveNote Delivers Breakout Single “Preference”

 

Artist, entertainer and songwriter Anaya LoveNote has something to say and she’s not holding back or biting her tongue for anyone or anything. Breaking out with her anthem for females titled, “Preference.” this Texas-bred and California-residing entertainer is winning over the hearts of the industry with her candid takes on life, love, and relationships. 

Taking back the labels that men impose on women like “hoe” or “gold digger,” Anaya LoveNote wants to level the playing field of dating with her new video, so that men understand that it’s just her “Preference” to date the kind of men that just so happen to have a big bag and the means to take care of a family.

“If men can be out here focused on their bag, then why can’t we as women do that? I’m not trying to get married, I want to focus on my bag, I want to focus on me. I want to fix me, but at the same time I don’t want to be just boring – I want to enjoy my life – I want to be able to do that. It’s not fair that men take that and flip it. It’s like what makes me a hoe and you a player?” Anaya LoveNote asked.  

Having been in a relationship with an A-list celebrity, Anaya LoveNove lost herself to the thralls of a relationship that was one-sided, and although she was happy for a time, ultimately she lost herself and her focus to be a singer and entertainer like she had always dreamed about. 

“Preference is a song inspired by how I was dating a really really huge celebrity and at one point I lost myself in that person. I was very distracted. I wasn’t going to the studio, and working on me and he ended up breaking me to the point where I lost myself.” Anaya LoveNote said.

Flipping the tables on the double-standards of modern day dating where women are negatively labeled and men are propped up for the various relationships they flaunt, Anaya Love Note wants her “Preferences” and standards known out the gate. 

But the road to finding success where she is touring weekly and recording with the best of the best wasn’t easy for Anaya LoveNote who grew up in foster care. Upon arrival to foster care when she was seven, Anaya took to singing and dancing, practicing and singing to Monica and Whitney Houston. 

“When I got into foster care at the age of 7, I didn’t know I could sing or dance. I would listen to Monica and Whitney Houston and I would sing to them. Then one day this foster care person told me I had a gift and from there I loved the sound of my voice. I fell in love with music and I wanted to know how far I could go.”

Encouraged by the foster care staff, Anaya has continued to pursue her dreams of being an artist and entertainer since then and has ultimately written for the likes of Wiz Khalifa’s Taylor Gang, Too Short and more.
