Game Says Ye Did More For Him in the Last Two Weeks Than Dre Did for Him His Whole Career

One of the most popular platforms for Hip-Hop interviews is the Drink Champs podcast, hosted by Norega and DJ E.F.N. Many classic conversations and revealing moments have come about since it debuted in 2016. And based on a clip that N.O.R.E. posted earlier today, the upcoming episode with The Game will be no exception.

In the clip, which went up on Instagram, it becomes clear that the chat will cover many topics in the three-part interview starting this Thursday. Some of the things discussed will be his feud with G-Unit and touring with Nipsey Hussle. But, perhaps, the most noteworthy part is when Game says, “It’s crazy that Ye did more for me in the last two weeks than Dre did for me in my whole career.”

While Game and Kanye have collaborated numerous times and recently on the song “Eazy.” The way Game seemingly shortchanges Dr. Dre’s contribution to his career is very odd considering that Dre’s label, Aftermath, released Game’s classic debut, The Documentary, which helped propel him to international superstardom in the mid-2000s. And after Game’s falling out with 50 Cent, the title track to Game’s sophomore album, 2006’s Doctor’s Advocate, was essentially a thank-you to the D.R.E. for all of his assistance and mentorship since the feud mentioned above separated the two Compton Hip-Hop figures. Later, the two would reconnect and collaborate on Game’s Red Album in 2011 and Dre’s Compton offering in 2015. It will be interesting to see what happens next. Check out the preview below!

Showtime To Feature “Cypress Hill: Insane In The Brain” & “Bushwick Bill: Geto Boy” Documentaries As Part Of Hip-Hop 50 Series

Showtime has announced the Cypress Hill: Insane in The Brain and Bushwick Bill: Geto Boy documentaries will be premiering this April on the television network as part of their joint venture with Mass Appeal for the network’s “Hip-Hop 50” series.

The Cypress Hill: Insane in The Brain documentary will explore the career and influence of the iconic hip-hop group and Bushwick Bill: Geto Boy will detail the life of the late Geto Boys member Bushwick Bill and his fight against censorship.

In 1991, Cypress Hill, by using jazz, R&B, psychedelic rock, and metal samples, solidified themselves as a pioneering hip-hop group when they released their self-titled debut album. The project dropped a year before Dr. Dre came out with The Chronic, whereas Cypress Hill had crafted stoner anthems like “Light Another” and “Stoned Is the Way of the Walk”. While other hip-hop groups had yet to openly embrace smoking marijuana, Cypress Hill was making it culturally cool to do so already.

Bushwick Bill, along with Scarface and Willie D – known to the world as The Geto Boys – put Houston, Texas on the map by pioneering their nightmarish imagery, physical abuse, and psychological horror in their songs including their opus “Mind Playing Tricks On Me”. Releasing their debut album, 1989’s Grip It! On That Other Level, on Rap-A-lot Records, the trio would go on to become multi-platinum pioneers. Sadly in 2019, the group lost pivotal group member Bushwick Bill to pancreatic cancer, effectively forcing the end of The Geto Boys as we know it.

Cypress Hill: Insane in The Brain will premiere on Showtime Wednesday, April 20 and Bushwick Bill: Geto Boy will premiere on Friday, April 29.

2Pac’s “Dear Mama” Turns 27

Released 27 years ago today, Tupac’s classic “Dear Mama” forever changed Hip-Hop. The first single from Pac’s Me Against the World album, “Dear Mama,” served as a touching tribute to his mother. The track, produced by Tony Pizarro, samples Joe Sample’s “In My Wildest Dreams” (which many heads will recognize from De La Soul’s second album as well).

What makes the song unique is that it doesn’t simply sing praises. It paints an honest picture of poverty, struggle, and addiction and how, despite these obstacles, Pac’s love for his mother outweighed it all. “And even as a crack fiend, Mama / You always was a black queen, Mama.”

In 1995, the song topped the “Billboard Hot Rap Singles Chart” and peaked at number 9 on the Billboard Hot 100. And since its release, it has become one of the most acclaimed rap songs ever made. In addition to being cited by artists such as Common, Eminem, and Kendrick Lamar (to name a few), it also appears on numerous “Best Hip-Hop Songs” lists. Most prestigiously, though, it was added to the National Recording Registry in the Library of Congress in 2009.

The song helped Me Against the World achieve double-platinum status and appeared on the 2Pac Greatest Hits album in 1998.

Tupac is undoubtedly one of the most influential figures in Hip-Hop history; this song is one of the reasons why.

Dr. Dre Details ‘2001’ Mixing Secrets To Young Guru On FAQ Podcast

Mega-producer and west coast hip-hop icon Dr. Dre recently revealed the secrets of his impeccable sonic quality on his 1999 release, 2001, to Young Guru on William “Fuzzy” West and Quincy Harris’ FAQ Podcast.

While discussing how Dr. Dre’s attention to detail in mixing his sophomore effort, Young Guru was given the opportunity to talk to Dre via FaceTime after Fuzzy called the legendary producer.

Dre told Jay-Z‘s long-time engineer, “That particular record, I was really going bass-heavy with it, but trying to keep the mids and the tops right. But still trying to make sure it sounded, like, some gritty shit. You know what it is trying to get that balance, he said before adding, “A lot of times, at least back then, I was mixing the vocals a little bit too loud because it’s a little trick you learn along the way, once you get into mastering if you want to add bass to your shit the vocals come down. So I would always mix the vocals just a little bit loud, that way you can add bass and the vocals would still sit on top of it comfortably.”

Check out the FAQ Podcast episode of Young Guru, Dr. Dre with William “Fuzzy” West and Quincy Harris below:
